Course Objectives and Structure

The main objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary English linguistics, focusing on its theoretical foundations, applied aspects, and current research directions. The course aims to:

  1. Familiarize students with the major branches of English linguistics (phonology, grammar, lexicology, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, discourse studies).

  2. Develop the ability to analyze linguistic phenomena critically, taking into account both traditional and modern approaches.

  3. Encourage students to explore the role of English in a globalized world, including issues of English as a Lingua Franca and the impact of digital technologies on language research.

  4. Strengthen students’ skills in practical analysis of authentic materials (media texts, political speeches, scientific discourse, and contemporary vocabulary).

  5. Promote independent research and academic inquiry into current problems of English linguistics.
